In an open letter posted to his website, the 26-year-old Swedish star, said he will perform his shows planned for the rest of 2016, but has no plan to do live shows after that.
“My path has been filled with success but it hasn’t come without its bumps. I’ve become an adult while growing as an artist, I’ve come to know myself better and realize that there’s so much I want to do with my life. I have strong interests in different areas but there’s so little time to explore them,” he wrote.
“I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.
“I will however never let go of music – I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let’s make them go out with a bang!”
As for whether he will ever take the stage again after he’s done with his current tour, he added: “One part of me can never say never, I could be back… but I won’t be right back.”
He will continue to play shows through the end of August, including a string of dates in Las Vegas, Nevada. He’s also expected to release his third studio album sometime this year.
Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, has struggled with health issues over the past few years and was forced to cancel several shows after having his gallbladder and appendix removed. He has toured consistently since 2013 and played Dublin’s Marlay Park in July of last year.
Here is one of his HUGE hits. We will all miss you bro. God’s speed!
