OK, so after having an artist from the Bahamas on the Christian rap compilation #2, I began to understand that there is a ton of gospel music coming from the islands. That being said, I never heard of RSA, but my initial reaction was to equate it with RZA from the Wu Tang Clan, imagine my surprise when I found out that RSA is a femcee. You know I’m a sucker for a good femcee, so this just excited me more. The bottom line is you get 8 songs for $5 (just click the artwork). So, let’s get into what my thoughts are.
Starting with the production, I knew I was going to be impressed. Even though the beats are all over the place as far as the feel, they are well produced, balanced and have nice arrangements. The production is top notch. The sound selection is on point. I’m really digging track #2 because of how dark and underground east coast it is. It just works. The beats alone on the tracks is worth the $5 in my honest opinion. I could see people vibing to how fresh the production is, and that isn’t something that I’m used to when listening to Christian Hip Hop.
Now, when it comes to the vocals, I’m even more impressed. I’m going to make a very bold statement, RSA is one of the best female Christian rappers that I have heard. Her flow ability is crazy, and her lyrical talent is undeniable on first listen. Even some of her choruses (the rapped ones) are impressive, and frequently this is an area where Christian rap can fall short. I was pleasantly surprised. The content is obviously Christian, even overtly so. Even the autotune use was done tastefully, and you all know that I’m not a big fan of the tool.
The mix on the tracks is impressive and musical. All around this is a solid project, and I have no problem endorsing it as a must have in your collection. Go grab this now.
