STORY BEHIND SONG
“This was actually the last song that I recorded off my album, The After Party. It’s crazy to think that I almost didn’t record it. However, I told First Lady that I wanted to get her on a song. I thought that it would be cool to do a song with someone my age expressing how much we loved God. I actually did not know this song would be the hit. My producer, T-Dogg, gave me a track when I told him that I wanted to get First Lady on a track. I took the beats home and started to work with it. (I have a little set up at the house where I rough draft songs.) When I started to work on this beat, I came up with the hook first. I remember just recording the hook and not being sure of whether it was good or not. Since I was unsure, I sent T-Dogg the song so he could listen to it, and a few minutes later, he called me going crazy about how good it was! I then started performing it and it was confirmed.
Even beyond all of this, I kind of have a thing for saying, “I love you” to Jesus. There’s just something about it that I like. Surprisingly, I did not have one of those songs yet. So, I knew exactly what I wanted it to be about when T-Dogg gave me the track. I just wanted to express how much I love Jesus and show that people my age love Jesus too. I think that’s one of the reasons that people like it so much. They feel the same way.
