American comedian, TV host and producer Steve Harvey has really come a long way from his struggling days as a homeless person. That’s why he is beyond grateful every time God showers him with another blessing.
When he was inducted into the 2016 Radio Hall of Fame recently, Harvey said thanks on his Twitter account (@IAmSteveHarvey).
“Hey look, it just keeps happening – the blessings keep coming. Now I’ve been inducted into the 2016 class for the Radio Hall of Fame,” he says in the video. “Another honour, I almost don’t know what to say. I’m blessed, my life is covered with grace, I’m grateful but you know I’m none of this without fans.”
Harvey, 59, then went on to thank his fans for all of their support. “So thank you to all the fans for helping to create who I am today by loving me, supporting me, by watching me, listening to me throughout the years. I want to share this one with everybody out there,” he says.
Always quick on his jokes, Harvey wraps up the video by saying, “This is ours, we’re going into the Radio Hall of Fame together. But I’m going to keep the award at my house.”
Harvey earlier recalled his days of struggle in an interview with PEOPLE, saying he used to sneak into hotel bathrooms just to wash up because he did not have a place to call home. He was homeless for three years, separated from his wife and lived on a budget of $50 a week. Harvey almost gave up on his dreams to become a comedian had it not been for God’s encouragement.
“I sat down and started crying, but a voice said, ‘If you keep going, I’m going to take you places you’ve never been,'” he says. “It was like God said, ‘Don’t quit, you’re almost there.'”
